Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are used to relocate heat using mechnical means. The two common types of heat pumps are air-source and ground-source, each having their own variations. Both are capable of warming and cooling your home.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air-source pumps pull heat indoors from outdoor air during the winter months and pulls cool air into the home during the summer. This is especially effective if you live in a warmer climate. When installed properly an air-source heat pump can deliver up to three times more heat than a home using electrical energy.

Ground-Source Heat Pumps

Ground-source heat actively pumps air into or from the shallow earth. This system is advantageous in moderate temperatures where the ground remains fairly cool throughout the year. Unlike an air-source pump, ground-source pumps exchange cool and hot air with the ground, allowing this pump to be more energy-efficient.

Absorption Heat Pumps

Absorption heat pumps use another heat source that is not electricity, such as natural gas, solar or geothermal heated water, or propane. Effectively, absorption heat pumps are air-source heat pumps.
